Why Slab-on-Grade Projects Need Early Layout Review
In slab-on-grade construction, drains, supply lines, sleeves, conduits, and other penetrations may be installed beneath or within the concrete.
Once the slab is poured, moving those elements may require cutting, demolition, tunneling, specialist repair, or significant changes to finishes and schedules.
A full-scale walkthrough gives the team one more opportunity to compare the intended building experience with the coordinated foundation and rough-in plans.
Verify Plumbing Rough-In and Stub-Up Locations
Plumbing locations should be evaluated in relation to walls, cabinets, fixtures, doors, furniture, and circulation—not only as isolated points on a drawing.
Walk Bathrooms at Actual Size
Stand inside each bathroom and inspect toilet, shower, tub, lavatory, drain, and door relationships.
Review whether the room remains usable after every fixture and clearance is represented.
Review Kitchen, Laundry and Utility Areas
Compare sink, island, dishwasher, refrigerator, washing-machine, water-heater, floor-drain, and utility locations with the planned cabinetry and room layout.
A small rough-in shift can affect several downstream trades.

A pre-slab print can be installed on the actual building pad to show the proposed structure in relation to the lot.

The print does not replace surveying, staking, setback verification, grading, drainage design, or site engineering.
Post-Tension Slabs Require Additional Caution
Post-tension slabs contain stressed tendons that require specialist knowledge before cutting or drilling.
The full-scale walkthrough does not locate tendons or authorize future modifications. Its value is helping the project team review the layout before the post-tension foundation is committed.
All structural decisions must remain with the engineer and qualified construction professionals.
What to Bring to the Pre-Pour Walkthrough
Invite the homeowner, builder, designer, plumber, electrician, mechanical contractor, cabinet or kitchen representative, and other stakeholders responsible for decisions shown on the slab plan.
Bring relevant fixture specifications, equipment dimensions, furniture outlines, vehicle measurements, and the latest coordinated construction documents.
Use removable markers or approved methods to document questions and return all changes to the design team before field installation.
How to Order a Pre-Slab Floor Plan
Send a scaled PDF after the design is sufficiently developed but before excavation and rough-in work make changes disruptive.
Review and approve the digital proof, then schedule enough time for production, shipping, installation, walkthrough, documentation, and revised construction drawings before the pour date.
Pricing is $0.45 per square foot with a $100 minimum order. Shipping is calculated separately.
