Instead of evaluating room relationships only from drawings, renderings or screens, participants can stand inside the proposed layout at actual size and discuss where walls, fixtures, doors, furniture, equipment and circulation are intended to occur. On slab-on-grade projects, this timing is especially useful because plumbing stub-ups, drains, sleeves, penetrations, foundation geometry and other conditions can become significantly more difficult to modify after concrete has been placed. The goal is not to replace professional coordination; it is to give the project team another opportunity to ask spatial questions before the work becomes less flexible.

Walk Bathrooms at Actual Size

A full-scale pre-pour review can help the project team examine plumbing fixture locations, bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, utility spaces, garage approach, room proportions, door swings, furniture fit, circulation, exterior relationships, patios and other dimensions shown on the floor plan. Site-specific reviews may also include discussion of building orientation, setbacks, access, drainage concepts, views, sunlight and relationships to neighboring conditions when those items have been established by the appropriate professionals. The printed layout gives participants a shared physical reference for the conversation; survey control, property-line verification, drainage engineering, foundation design and code compliance remain separate professional responsibilities.

Plumbing Rough-Ins, Stub-Ups and Drains

Plumbing is one of the most important items to review before a slab pour because drains, waste lines, supply routes and fixture connections may pass below or through the concrete. Participants can walk to the planned locations of toilets, sinks, showers, tubs, kitchen fixtures, laundry connections and floor drains and compare the intended room layout with the project information supplied by the plumbing and design teams. A printed floor plan does not locate plumbing in the field or certify rough-in accuracy; the licensed trades and responsible professionals must establish and verify actual installation locations before concrete placement.

Kitchen, Bathroom and Laundry Layouts

Bathrooms, kitchens and laundry spaces combine fixed fixtures, cabinetry, appliances, doors and circulation within relatively small areas, which makes them valuable places to review at full scale. How the Pre-Slab Walkthrough Process Works

Send Big Floor Plans a scaled PDF of the layout to be printed; vector PDFs are preferred when available. Plans originating in Revit, AutoCAD, Archicad, SketchUp or similar design software should be exported to PDF before submission. Big Floor Plans prepares a digital production proof for customer approval, typically in about 48 hours after receiving usable project information. Review the overall scale, printed area, orientation, calibration information and requested project details before approving production. Typical production is five to seven business days after proof approval, followed by FedEx Ground shipping calculated separately. Plans ship folded and should be deployed on a suitable flat surface using an installation method appropriate for the site and conditions.

Pre-Slab Floor Plan Pricing

Big Floor Plans pricing is $0.45 per printed square foot with a $100 minimum order. At that rate, approximately 1,500 printed square feet would have an initial print price of about $675, 2,000 square feet about $900 and 2,500 square feet about $1,125 before shipping and any production considerations identified during file review. Exact production usage cannot be confirmed until the PDF is reviewed because paneling, printed boundaries and production requirements can affect the final quantity. Shipping is separate.
